Our Religion and World Views

Our Religion and Worldviews curriculum aims to develop curious, thoughtful and open minded pupils who understand and respect a range of religious and non-religious worldviews. Our curriculum is relevant to pupils’ lives and prepares them to live respectfully alongside others in modern Britain and the wider world.

Through a progressive curriculum, pupils build their conceptual knowledge by exploring religion and worldviews locally, nationally and globally. They revisit key concepts and ‘big questions’, building on prior learning to make meaningful connections and develop an increasingly secure understanding of how beliefs and worldviews influence individuals, communities and society.

Pupils are encouraged to ask and respond to challenging questions, consider different perspectives and reflect on their own views and assumptions. They explore religion and worldviews as lived experiences, developing an appreciation of both diversity and commonality within and between different traditions and beliefs.

Our aim is for pupils to leave primary school with the knowledge, understanding and respect needed to engage thoughtfully with people whose beliefs and worldviews may be different from their own.

Right of Withdrawal

Parents and carers have the statutory right to request that their child is wholly or partly withdrawn from Religious Education. Parents and carers do not have to provide a reason for requesting withdrawal; however, we encourage families considering this to discuss their concerns with Mrs Quinn, Headteacher, so that the nature and purpose of our Religion and Worldviews curriculum can be fully understood.
