PHSE - Personal Development

Our PSHE curriculum equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to navigate life confidently, safely and responsibly. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils revisit and build upon key knowledge within five areas: My Healthy Self, Connecting with Others, The Online World, Citizenship and Staying Safe.

We want pupils to make informed choices, develop positive relationships, understand how to keep themselves and others safe, and become confident, responsible and active members of society.

Our PSHE curriculum is enhanced by wider opportunities across school:

• Assemblies broaden pupils’ understanding of different faiths, cultures and communities.

• Leadership and responsibility opportunities enable Year 5 and 6 pupils to contribute to school life through roles including ambassadors, play leaders, reading buddies and school council.

• Pol-Ed supplements our PSHE curriculum, providing learning that responds to issues and challenges relevant to our local community.

Enrichment

We believe pupils’ personal development extends beyond the classroom. Our enrichment afternoons, visits, residentials, clubs and wider experiences provide opportunities for pupils to develop new interests, build confidence and experience learning beyond the day-to-day curriculum.

Our planned experiences include:

• EYFS: Farm visit

• Year 1: Eureka!

• Year 2: Pantomime and a visit to the coast

• Year 3: Yorkshire Sculpture Park

• Year 4: Cliffe House, one-night residential

• Year 5: JORVIK and DIG

• Year 6: High Adventure, two-night camping residential

Pupils also benefit from visits to places of worship and a range of after-school clubs, further enriching their experiences and understanding of the wider world.
