Early Years Curriculum

Our EYFS curriculum follows the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage framework and supports children's learning and development across seven areas.

The Three Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Physical Development

The Four Specific Areas

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Our curriculum is carefully planned and sequenced to build upon children's prior knowledge, experiences and interests.

Learning is revisited and extended throughout Nursery and Reception, ensuring children receive appropriate support and challenge as they develop.

Communication and language are central to everything we do. We place particular importance on developing children's vocabulary, confidence in speaking and ability to listen, share ideas and engage in meaningful conversations.

Our Learning Adventures

Throughout the year, our children explore a range of engaging topics designed to develop their knowledge and understanding of themselves, their community and the wider world.

Half Term

Our Learning Topic

Autumn 1

My Home. My Street. My Town.

Autumn 2

Our Country. Our World. Our Universe.

Spring 1

                     Once Upon a Time…

Spring 2

By Air. By Land. By Sea.

Summer 1

                    Wonderful Transformations

Summer 2

                     Our Adventure…

Through these topics, children learn about their families and local community, explore different places and celebrations, enjoy traditional tales, investigate transport, discover the natural world and develop their understanding of the wider world.

Our curriculum follows a one-year thematic cycle, with learning carefully adapted for Nursery 1, Nursery 2 and Reception. Children revisit previous learning and develop increasingly sophisticated knowledge, skills and vocabulary as they progress.

Learning Through Play

We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved, curious and excited about their learning.

Play is at the heart of our Early Years approach. Our children learn through a combination of adult-led teaching, guided activities and carefully planned continuous provision.

Our indoor and outdoor learning environments provide opportunities for children to explore, investigate, create, communicate, solve problems and develop their own ideas.

Children have access to a variety of learning areas, including construction, small world, role play, creative activities, sand, water, reading, writing and mathematics.

Through purposeful play, children develop independence, confidence, resilience and a love of learning.

Our Learning Environment

Our Early Years environment is carefully designed to encourage independence, creativity, curiosity and exploration.

Our continuous provision areas provide familiar and consistent opportunities for children to practise and develop their skills.

These areas are enhanced throughout the year to reflect our curriculum themes, children's interests and their next steps in learning.

Adults play an important role in extending children's learning by modelling new skills, introducing vocabulary, encouraging problem-solving and supporting meaningful conversations.

We use the ShREC approach (Share Attention, Respond, Expand and Conversation) to support high-quality interactions and develop children's communication and language.

Vocabulary is carefully introduced, revisited and extended throughout our provision, helping children to remember and apply their learning in different contexts.

Supporting Every Child

We recognise that every child has their own interests, strengths and individual starting points.

Our learning environment and teaching approaches are adapted to ensure all children feel included, supported and appropriately challenged.

Through careful observation, assessment and positive relationships, we identify children's next steps and provide opportunities for them to build confidence, develop independence and achieve their potential.

We celebrate every child's progress and encourage them to take pride in their learning and achievements.

Working Together with Parents

We believe that strong relationships between home and school are essential to children's happiness, confidence and development.

We value the important role parents and carers play in their child's education and encourage open communication throughout their Early Years journey.

We work closely with families to celebrate children's achievements, share their progress and support learning at home.

Together, we aim to ensure that every child has a happy, positive and successful start to their education.
